Exposing The Incidence of Ileus In Pelvic and Acetabular Fractures: A Retrospective Case Analysis

Description

This presentation discusses a study on the incidence of ileus in patients with pelvic and/or acetabular fractures. Presented by Fimi, an F2 doctor, it builds on the understanding of ileus as a temporary halt in gastrointestinal movement, primarily observed post-surgery. The study aims to determine the rate of ileus among this specific patient group, where previous literature has not provided sufficient data. It reveals that 40.35% of the patients experienced ileus, highlighting the relevance of factors such as diabetes and intra-abdominal injuries in increasing risk. The analysis included 57 patients who met specific inclusion criteria from a major trauma center. Findings indicate a prolonged hospital stay for those with ileus, especially notable in younger patients under 65. The presentation concludes with suggestions for further research and collaboration between surgical specialties to enhance patient care.
